Three Unique Ways to Experience the Mohican River Valley
When juggling the tasks, noises, and digital demands of daily life, it’s easy to forget that in the heart of North Central Ohio lies a historical wilderness with a story to tell.
Mark your calendar for some adventure time in the Mohican River Valley and share in the tranquility and beauty experienced by Native Americans and early settlers hundreds of years ago.
The Mohican River Water Trail offers 28 miles of Class 1 paddling through pristine wilderness and countryside. Loudonville Canoe Livery offers several trips, from 3 to 40 miles. Get a taste of the river with their popular 9-mile ride, or take a long, “Lazy Overnighter,” which includes a night of camping under the stars! First-time canoers are welcome, along with kayakers and tubers. As Ohio’s oldest canoe leasing business operation from the same location, Loudonville Canoe Livery can help you plan the Mohican vacation of your dreams!
Mohican State Park’s mountain bike (MTB) trail, Ohio’s longest singletrack at 25.5 miles, is located just outside Loudonville. With plenty of climbing and the occasional logovers and bridge, the trail will give you a workout–and a feast for your eyes as you pass through stands of coniferous and mixed deciduous forest, rock gardens, a covered bridge, and even a resident gnome. According to Mohican State Park, this track was named "Trail of the Month" by Runners World Magazine, voted #1 mountain bike trail in Ohio by Mountain Bike Action Magazine, and a "must ride" according to National Geographic Explorer Magazine!
